Our Story

Reconstruction Contractor Serving Maine and New Hampshire

Octagon Construction & Energy rebuilds homes after water, fire, and structural damage. We take over once cleanup and mitigation are complete, rebuilding properties to a safe, usable condition. We are licensed, insured, and based in Windham, Maine, with active reconstruction projects across both Maine and New Hampshire.

Our work focuses on one phase of the recovery process: the rebuild.

Why Octagon Was Built

After years working in construction across Maine, we kept seeing the same problem on damage recovery projects. Cleanup crews would arrive, stop the immediate damage, and leave. Homeowners were left to figure out the rebuild on their own. Most general contractors did not understand insurance scope. Most cleanup companies did not specialize in structural rebuild. The handoff between mitigation and reconstruction was where homeowners got stuck, sometimes for months.

Octagon Construction & Energy was founded to close that gap. We do not chase emergency calls. We do not handle initial cleanup. We focus on the part of the process where homeowners need real expertise: rebuilding what was damaged or removed, working within insurance approvals, and returning the property to a fully usable condition.

While the company’s roots include broader construction work, our focus has narrowed over time to post-mitigation reconstruction across Maine and New Hampshire. Reconstruction is not a side service; it is the work.

How We Work With Octagon Cleaning & Restoration

Octagon Construction & Energy operates alongside Octagon Cleaning & Restoration, a separate company that handles mitigation, cleanup, and content removal after damage occurs. The two companies have different teams, scopes, and responsibilities, but coordinate closely so homeowners do not have to manage unrelated contractors during a stressful time.

When mitigation is complete, the project transitions to Octagon Construction & Energy for the reconstruction phase. Homeowners referred to us through our sister company receive a clean handoff with documentation of what was done during mitigation. Homeowners who come to us directly, with cleanup already handled by another company, are welcome as well.

What Makes a Reconstruction Contractor Different

Reconstruction is often confused with general contracting or cleanup. The distinction matters because the work, training, and process are different.

  • Reconstruction Is a Distinct Discipline
General contractors handle new builds and renovations. Cleanup companies handle drying and removal. Reconstruction sits between these two and has its own skill set: assessing post-mitigation damage, defining accurate rebuild scopes, working within insurance approvals, and rebuilding what was removed during cleanup. A contractor who occasionally handles reconstruction is not the same as one whose primary focus is reconstruction.
  • Why Not the Same Company That Did the Mitigation
Mitigation crews are trained to remove damage and prevent further harm. Reconstruction teams are trained to rebuild structural systems, frame walls, install subfloors, and restore livable interiors. The two require different skills and equipment. Companies that try to do both are usually stronger in one phase than the other.
  • Insurance Coordination Is Part of the Process
Insurance coordination is part of how reconstruction projects are managed. We work within approved scopes, document rebuilding work throughout the project, and communicate with adjusters when reconstruction-related scope changes are required.

More detailed information about insurance-driven rebuilding projects is available on our insurance reconstruction page.

Our reconstruction work covers four primary scopes: water damage reconstruction, fire damage reconstruction, structural reconstruction, and insurance reconstruction.
